The Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg (MWK) has completely reoriented the Margarete von Wrangell Programme in 2023. The aim of the programme is to use structured postdoc positions to guide talented women through the postdoc phase, which is characterised by uncertainty, to prevent the disproportionate departure of women in the postdoc phase and to attract highly qualified talent to science on a permanent basis.

In order to achieve the funding goals, junior or tenure-track female professors form a tandem with a female researcher who has recently completed her doctorate (usually up to two years after the doctorate) for a maximum of three years.

Funding is provided by the MWK and the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus) for a three-year employment relationship of a recent doctoral graduate (100% FTE; TV-L EG 13 or EG 14). The respective higher education institution participates in the funding by providing additional funds in the amount of 15,000 euros per funded employee, which may be used exclusively for the qualification of the academic employee.

All junior professors and tenure-track professors in accordance with § 51b LHG are eligible to apply in the first 18 months after taking up their post.
